D'Ann started her career teaching preschool, with her Associates degree in Child Develpment from Ferris State University, prior to having her first children, twin boys. She choose to be a stay-at-home mom for their first five years while continuing her education, completing her Bachelors of Science degree, majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University, all while being a college athlete on the track team. This led to her being hired in January in a third-grade classroom and moving to fifth grade the following year, which she taught for eleven years. After having two more children, D'Ann decided to stay home with them for a year to complete her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a philanthropy emphasis. With a degree in philanthropy, D'Ann empowered her students to engage in service-learning projects. Guiding her students' voice, they were able to improve their community in amazing ways. Even though teaching is D'Ann's passion, she started questioning her contentment. Being a person who embraces challenges and change, she decided to resign from teaching to homeschool her two youngest and find a career which utlizes all her assets. Two years of homeschooling was a great bonding time for her and her children but she was soon ready for the next adventure. Michigan State University Extension educator specializing in global and cultural education felt like the perfect fit. Growing up as a 4-H'er in Newaygo County, hosting nine exchange students, placing exchange students for two other organizations, traveling, and being an exchange student, were all the more reason to accept this position. D'Ann is also facilitating service-learning sessions with 4-H youth and adults throughout the state. Along with her teaching positions, D'Ann is a pool director for local community pool, swim lesson instructor, and coach of many sports including, swimming, soccer, basketball, softball and track. D'Ann was a successful athlete herself, including All American status in discus, Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs when she was 19 years-old and most recently inducted in Fremont High School's Sports Hall of Fame. Her positive outlook on life and the belief you can do anything you put your mind too is easily conveyed to all who come in contact with D'Ann Rohrer.
