My academic interest is capacity building in research institutions in developing countries. This work is funded through the Feed the Future Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program. Honoring the legacy of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Norman Borlaug, this is a major United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded effort to increase the number of agricultural scientists and strengthen scientific institutions in developing countries. The program supports long-term training of agricultural researchers at the master’s and doctoral levels and links scientific and higher education communities in Feed the Future countries and the United States.
We are currently working in 10 countries including Ghana, Uganda, Mali, Mozambique, Malawi, South Sudan, Kenya, Liberia, Bangladesh, and Cambodia with potential to expand to other Feed the Future countries. The BHEARD program also supports the development, testing and evaluation of new models of capacity development. The BHEARD program has the following objectives:
