Subject Matter Expert, Codex Alimentarius - the World Food Code

John S. Wilson, a U.S. national, is an international expert on trade policy focused on trade facilitation and growth. He is currently managing research projects on (1) trade facilitation, standards, and economic development in Sub Saharan Africa, (2) economic modeling of the impact of trade facilitation measures on development in the Asia Pacific region, and (3) the linkages between food safety, plant, and animal health standards and trade, among others. His work has included country operational responsibilities and advice to the Central America and Central Asia and Eastern Europe region of the World Bank. He also provides liaison between the Bank and the World Trade Organization and other institutions on standards and technical barriers to trade in agriculture and goods.

Prior to joining the Bank in 1999, he was Vice President for Technology Policy at ITI, Visiting Fellow at the Institute for International Economics in Washington, and Senior Staff Officer of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering of the United States. He has also been an Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at Georgetown University.
