Julie Thelen joined MSUE in 2013 as the statewide 4-H Livestock and Veterinary Science Educator. She works with youth, adults and staff engaged in the Beef, Sheep, Swine, Veterinary Science and Animal Evaluation project areas. Julie works closely with the MSU Department of Animal Science and MSU College of Veterinary Medicine to continue improving resources and programming. She has expanded the livestock and veterinary science programs by introducing the 4-H Animal and Veterinary Science Camp and revamping the livestock judging program. Julie has focused on curriculum development, creating 4-H Animal Science Anywhere lessons and bringing zoonotic disease prevention education to the forefront of animal science. Julie’s statewide events include the 4-H Animal and Veterinary Science Camp, Michigan 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest, Michigan 4-H/FFA Meat Judging Contest, Michigan 4-H Beef, Sheep and Swine Teen and Adult Leaders Workshop, Michigan 4-H Veterinary Science Teen and Adult Leaders Workshop and coordinates Michigan Youth PQA Plus.
