Michelle Walk is an Extension educator with Michigan State University Extension in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Michelle has worked in the community development field for over 20 years, including 12 years with MSU Extension. In her current role with MSU Extension, she focuses primarily on business development related local food systems but continues to do some programming in the tourism area.
Michelle provides education and technical assistance on topics including, but not limited to, on-farm food safety, GroupGAP, food hub development, farm-to-school, farmers markets, cottage food law, agritourism, culinary tourism, and local and regional food intiatives. She provides leadership and coordination for the Upper Peninsula Food Exchange as a co-lead for that initiative. Providing technical assistance to farmers and farmers’ market vendors on marketing and value-added ventures. In addition, she works with connecting farmers to retail, restaurants, schools and institutions interested in sourcing local products.
