Paul B. Streng is an Instructor - Emeritus in the Construction Management Program in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University. He began his career at MSU in 1971 in the Department of Psychiatry in the College of Human Medicine as an Instructional Developer and later as an Administrator. Streng then moved to the Department of Agricultural Engineering in an administrative role in 1984 and started teaching in the Construction Management Program shortly thereafter.  He was the prime author of the Transition Plan that ultimately resulted in the creation of the School of Planning, Design and Construction by the Board of Trustees in July 2004. Streng has served as Faculty Advisor to a number of student organizations, including the MSU Rodeo Club, the Student Builders and Contractors Association, and Sigma Lambda Chi, the honorary construction management fraternity. He currently serves on the Student Chapters Advisory Board for the National Association of Home Builders. His areas of expertise include Construction Codes, Fire Prevention Codes, and Public Policy related to Land Use Planning, Economic Development, and Redevelopment.  Streng has also done multiple MSU Study Abroad programs, including Russia, Italy and served as on-site faculty at MSU Dubai. He has served his home community of Howell, MI, continuously since 1969, where he was a volunteer Firefighter and Assistant Fire Chief on the Howell Fire Department, the Chair of Cable Television Commission, was elected to City Council, was Mayor Pro Tem, was elected Mayor for three terms, was Chair of the Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission Chair, and served on the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and the Livingston County Economic Development as the City of Howell representative and Chair for two years. Streng’s community service led to him receive the Distinguished Community Service Award, being Named Howell Citizen of the Year, and was recipient of the MSU Presidents award for Public Service. He has served as President of the Michigan State Firemen’s Association and was Chair of the Wildfire Taskforce for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In addition, Streng served four terms as Vice Chair of the National Volunteer Council and was a U.S. representative to the World Federation of Volunteer Firefighters.
