Attorney Peter L. Lallas is the Executive Secretary of the World Bank Inspection Panel. The Inspection Panel is an independent body mandated to review whether the World Bank is acting in compliance with its own Operational Policies and Procedures on social and environmental protections, in response to complaints by communities who believe they have been harmed by Bank-funded projects.

Prior to joining the World Bank Inspection Panel, Mr. Lallas was Director of the International Environmental Law Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he provided legal counsel to the Agency on a range of international law matters involving transboundary and global environmental problems. From September 2003 to January 2005, he served as Visiting Expert in International Law at FAO in Rome, with a major focus on the International Plant Protection Convention. Mr. Lallas taught for many years on international environmental law and policy as Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, and worked in Brussels, Belgium from 1986-1989 on international and European Community law and policy matters. He has written extensively on topics of international law and international environmental law.
