Biography: Randy is a Ph.D. student in the Fisheries and Wildlife Department at Michigan State University. His Ph.D. research focuses on demographics and movement of mute swans in Michigan in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and USDA-APHIS Wildlife Services. Randy received his B.S. in Wildlife at Purdue University and completed his Master’s degree at Ohio State University researching survival and microhabitat use of northern bobwhites. He is an Indiana native, but considers himself to be a Michigander by default since he spent the majority of his summers on the water at his family’s lake cottage in Van Buren County. He was introduced to wildlife conservation by chasing bushy tails, cottontails, and whitetails in the fields of Indiana and Michigan with his father, uncle, and grandfather. He continues to pursue squirrels, waterfowl, and white-tailed deer across several states each fall and is always eager to hear the thunderous gobble of wild turkeys in the springtime.
