Michigan Pear Industry Research Priorities
Not in order of preference:
New varieties, with emphasis on fire blight resistance, and testing for both processing and fresh market characteristics.
New production techniques for earlier yielding.
Better rootstocks with early bearing and dwarfing characteristics.
Better post bloom strategies for managing fire blight disease, including novel chemical combinations and timing. Chemicals include copper, mancozeb or equivalent, mycoshield, Serenade, and Apogee
Improved insecticide strategies for fruit-infesting larvae without increasing psylla and mite problems.
