The report below on financing farming in the United States was developed based on six meeting sessions, organized by the C.S. Mott Group for Sustainable Food Systems (now CRFS) at Michigan State University and The Carrot Project, held with stakeholders from across the country and designed to explore

  1. the reasons for the chasm between an emerging sector of smaller-scale agriculture producers and access to capital, and
  2. workable strategies to create successful farmer-lender relationships.
