March 16, 2017
4-H's mission is to empower youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults. One goal to achieve that mission is to connect in-school learning with out-of-school-time opportunities that enhance learning. That's precisely the focus of Heads In, Hearts In: A Delivery Approach to Family Enrichment 4-H Programming. These resources encourage youth and families to use their minds (putting their "heads in") as a tool to expand their knowledge around variety of topic areas. By creating a shared educational experience, youth and their families will work, grow and learn together, putting their "hearts in" to the process.
Heads In, Hearts In: A Delivery Approach to Family Enrichment Programming – Staff Guide is designed to help Michigan State University Extension staff members to involve partners in a family enrichment program. Family enrichment programming is an approach to education that involves youth and their families learning together as they focus on a topic. The guide gives ideas for partnerships such as schools, day cares and camps. It also offers ideas for topics. It gives examples of emails in order to communicate with potential partners and a suggested list of discussion points to cover. It gives specific financial details as well as details about collecting sign-in sheets and demographics. Additional resources include a promotional flier and a sample invoice.
