Your 4-H Market Hog Project (4H1064)

This newly revised resource contains swine project specific information for 4-H youth, parents and volunteers. Increase your knowledge and understanding of a variety of topics including record keeping, animal selection, early care and management, facilities and equipment, feeding and nutrition, common diseases, showing swine, pork quality assurance, animal marketing, and animal care and well-being. The completely reviewed resource will assist youth in having a well-rounded market hog experience.

The objective of the 4-H market hog project is to encourage integrity, sportsmanship, cooperation and an ability to communicate through activities such as demonstrations, talks, judging events, tours and exhibits. Knowing correct procedures for running and participating in a business meeting will be important to you all of your life. Your 4-H swine club is an excellent place to practice these skills.

This book includes information on selecting project pigs, their early care and management, facilities and equipment, feeds and nutrients, common diseases, exhibiting hogs, marketing and other activities related to a 4-H market hog project. (32 pages, 1986)
