Modern Vacation Home Project: Aussican

Author: Macy Niemisto

Class: IDES 250 CAD & Structural Systems

Project Description

Create a space to function as a vacation rental unit for up to two guests. This structure will depict modern interior and exterior styles, and include high-end finish materials and amenities. The interior will feature an open concept plan and include an open loft.

Project Concept

Aussican will be the perfect getaway for the couple who shares dual citizenship from the United States and Australia. Since the couple currently resides in the United States, Aussican will be located in Sydney, Australia. The purpose of this space will be to provide the residents with somewhere to call home and feel comfortable, while improving their sense of belonging during their visits to their second home country. The home will use exterior materials that are most often used in Australia, but the form of the building will be very contemporary and inspired by the Sydney Opera House with the impression of different levels and units from the exterior. The interior will feature an open floor plan to present a light, breezy, Australian first impression. To continue this impression, as well as the contemporary styling, much of the color scheme will include black and white with some analogous colors adding in to remind of the tropical vegetation in the area.
