Modern Vacation Home Project: Sea La Via

Author: Tina Alati

Class: IDES 250 CAD & Structural Systems

Description

Create a space to function as a vacation rental unit for two guests. This structure will depict modern interior and exterior styles, and include high-end finish materials and amenities. The interior will feature an open concept plan and include an open loft.

Concept Statement

Sea La Via, meaning “by the sea” in French, will be located on the beach in Tahiti, an island in French Polynesia. Light concrete and bamboo building materials will cool the space on hot days, and act as insulation on a rare, cool day. As the sun rises and stays high in the sky during the day, the space will be protected by an encompassing roof, while the large front windows will allow for beautiful sunset views in the evening. All doorways lead to the water, with easy access to the beach and the pool. Multiple patios and fully opening doors will bring the outside in and allow guests to share the space with warm weather and fresh tropical air. High ceilings, large windows and a pool will invigorate the space, while an open concept will provide the utmost comfort and tranquility. Modern elements will be reflected throughout the interior and exterior, with a touch of “beach-y” accents in materials and furnishings.
