MicroTel DOS Payroll Restore
This software program is being supported through the 2005 tax year. All users are being encouraged to select the PENSOFT® PAYROLL PLUS or PENSOFT® PAYROLL PLUS PROFESSIONAL for future payroll needs.
Note: The instructions on this page can be printed with the pdf version.
You will need the backup disks for each year and each program you want to restore. MicroTel Backup disks include the program files as well as the data files in a compressed format. They cannot be copied to a different location, they must be restored , which uncompresses the files. In order to uncompress these files, you must have a file named FR.COM. This file is on the "Telfarm Master CD". You need to know what drive the CD is in (usually D:).
These instructions are for the Accountant program for the current year (TELFARM), to restore other backups, substitute the subdirectory names like \ACC04, \PAYROLL, \PAY03, etc.
- Insert the "Telfarm Master Product CD" in the CD drive. It will start, but you should exit and leave it in the drive.
- You will be returned to your Windows Desktop.
- Get to the MS Dos prompt (Windows XP: go to All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt)
- Type CD\ then press enter so it shows C:\>
- Type MD\TELFARM
- Type CD\TELFARM .
- Type COPY D:FR.COM
(If your CD drive is not D:, substitute your drive letter). - Insert your Backup Disk #1 in Drive A:
- Type FR A:/V
- Watch the screen as it restores all of the files from Disk #1
- It will stop to tell you that the FR.COM file already exists and ask if you want to replace it. Say N for No.
- If you have a second disk, you will be asked to insert Backup Disk #2. Do it and then press enter. It is rare that you would have a third Backup disk, but if it is called for, insert the third disk and/or additional disks and continue.
- When complete, you will be returned to the C:\TELFARM prompt sign.
- Type ACCOUNT
. You will use this command for each accounting year. For each Payroll year, you will type PAYROLL. You should now be at the first MicroTel screen. Go to the Main menu and select one of the listings or run a report on screen to be certain the records are there. Enter transactions now if you wish.
NOTE: If you are changing to a different printer, you may need to change printer customization in each program. DOS programs will not print on a Windows based or USB connected printer.
