MicroTel DOS Payroll
This software program is being supported through the 2005 tax year. All users are being encouraged to select the PENSOFT® PAYROLL PLUS or PENSOFT® PAYROLL PLUS PROFESSIONAL for future payroll needs.
The program is used to prepare payroll, write checks, do labor reports and W2s. For the 2005 year, patches are available. The curent W2 patches are for the 2004 year. There was NO update to the W2 for the 2005 software There is a magnetic media patch available on the web for the 2005 tax year.
Important reminder to all Payroll users:
In some operating systems especially XP, it is possible to open more then one window with the Payroll program running.
Do not do these!
Here are some of the ways that a second window could have been opened without your knowledge:
DON'T: Double clicking the Payroll icon when the one click level is set on your computer for opening programs. Two instances of Payroll become active.
DON'T: Leave the computer for a period of time. Come back and the screen is black or the screen saver has taken over the system. When the desktop reappears, click on the Payroll icon without examining the task bar.
DON'T: Printer or network problem occurs, Payroll is open, but seems not to be responding.
DON'T: Someone else has previously opened Payroll and did not close it properly.
DON'T: Multiple users are allowed on your system. One of these users has the Payroll program open. When users are switched without closing all the programs, then the new user may open another instance of the program.
DO these to be a smart user of Payroll!
If you are leaving your computer to do something else, close the program.
When starting to work at a computer that is up and running, check the task bar for programs that are open.
Check your mouse clicking skills. Open programs and watch what happens on your task bar. Properties can be changed to single or double click, which ever works best for you, to open programs.
If the program is running unusually slow, then there might be another instance of the program running.
After a printer or network error, if the program does not come alive, it is safer to restart or reboot. If the program appears to freeze, it is safer to close everything down and restart or reboot.
Resize your Payroll window to run with the task bar visible.
Keep track of the last record number used for preparing Payroll. If the record number is smaller the next time your start to write checks, then you have a problem. Stop using the Payroll program and call Telfarm for assistance.
