Explore, Experience, Achieve Through 4-H Youth Mentoring
Welcome!
Explore,
Experience, Achieve Through 4-H Youth Mentoring (EEA) is a Van Buren
County based program working to fulfill the state and nationwide
initiative of providing mentors to youth.
Times
are different now from what they were. With today's busy lifestyles
and work schedules, many youth are not getting the support they need
to maximize their potential. AmeriCorps, Michigan State University
Extension, and the Van Buren Intermediate School District are
collaborating to create mentoring programs for Van Buren County
youth.
Mentoring
works. The hour a week spent with a youth can last a lifetime. When a
youth gets mentored, the results are remarkable. These include:
improved academic performance, better attendance, better attitudes
about learning, higher college enrollment rates and better
relationships with parents, teachers and their peers. Mentors also
report positive experiences. Personal fulfillment through helping
others and the community, increased confidence, support from other
mentors, enhanced communication skills and community recognition are
all a part of the mentoring experience.
