CR214          Principles of Crop Production II

This course will be worthy 5 credits in the Department of Crop Science. There will be a total of 80 contact hours over a 15 week period. There will be 7 practical sessions of 4 hours each every alternate week. These will consist largely of field visits to relevant farms, experiment stations or commercial companies and some laboratory experiments.

1. Elements of agro-metereology (4 hrs)

2. Agro-ecology of Zimbabwe (3 hrs)

3. Land-use evaluation (4 hrs)

4. Land and water management, (5 hrs)

5. Principles of crop rotations (3 hrs)

6. Tillage principles and planting techniques (4 hrs)

7. Crop fertilisers and nutrients (4 hrs)

8. Principles of crop improvement and seed production (5 hrs)

9. Principles of agroforestry (4 hrs)

10. Elemertary irrigation (4 hrs)

11. Principles of irrigation (5 hrs)

12. Experimental techniques (2 hrs)

13. Research topic (4 hrs)
