Who is eligible for FNP?
Families eligible for FNP should be at or below 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. You can find the Federal Poverty Guidelines at http://www.aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/poverty.shtml . You can find information on 185 percent of poverty by looking at the WIC web site, since WIC uses 185 percent of poverty for eligibility, also, http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/FAQs/FAQ.HTM#1
How many individuals or families in my county are eligible for FNP? What audiences should I consider targeting?
Get an overview of the families in your county (age distribution, poverty rates, employment figures, etc.) at MSU Extension County Profiles, http://www.msue.msu.edu/countyprofiles .
You can find similar information for your county at http://www.census.gov . Enter Michigan , then enter your county. There also are a variety of data tables that you can reach by clicking on “American fact finder” on the census home page.

Information on the number of households receiving food assistance benefits (“food stamps”) can be found at the Family Independence Agency web site (See Program Enrollments), http://www.michigan.gov/fia .
Which schools in my county are eligible for FNP (at least 50 percent of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch)?
Information on Michigan schools can be found at the Michigan Department of Education web site, http://michigan.gov/mde/1,1607,7-140-6525_6530_6569---,00.html. Then go to "Resources and related info". Then Breakfast and Lunch Info By District". The Oct. 2001 data is there. Data for 2002 should be up in February. The column of interest is Free/Reduced % of enrollment.

Additional information on children, nutrition and learning is available on the http://www.michigan.gov/mde web site if you take different steps. Once at the home page, click on “About MDE”, the click on “Programs and Offices”, the click on “School Excellence.” Under “Learning Support on that page, click on ”Nutrition”.
If we are planning to work with breast-feeding women, where can I find information on breast-feeding rates with low-income women?
Please check with your local WIC office because this information is not on the MDCH-WIC web site at this time.
