Pre-College Programs
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) offers pre-college programs to students in grades 7-11 to increase awareness of technology, careers, college life and opportunities in agriculture, natural resources and STEM disciplines.
We anticipate hosting the programs in 2024.
ANR Institute for Multicultural Students
The ANR Institute for Multicultural Students (AIMS) is a free one-week program in the summer at Michigan State University sponsored by CANR and a number of other public and private agencies and corporations.
AIMS is designed to give high school students in grades 9-11 broad exposure to the food and agricultural sciences, natural resources and related fields. Students live in residence halls on campus and are part of different demonstrations, tours and hand-on activities.
Multicultural Apprenticeship Program
The Multicultural Apprenticeship Program (MAP) is a free four-week summer experience program sponsored at MSU sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) at MSU.
MAP is designed to give high school students in grades 10-11 the opportunity to experience college life and to explore the many exciting educational and career opportunities in the agricultural and food sciences, natural resources and related fields.
Through MAP, students work in many different areas including: food science, agricultural engineering, forestry, animal sciences, horticulture and crop and soil sciences, environmental and natural resource management, veterinary medicine and a number of other areas. Each MAP participant is matched with a faculty member to work on a research project. Students also participate in field trips, leadership seminars and a number of other educational, social and cultural activities.
Michigan Indian Leadership Program
The Michigan Indian Leadership Program (MILP) is a free one-week summer experience at MSU co-sponsored by CANR and the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at MSU.
MILP is designed to give Native American students in grades 8-12 the opportunity to experience college life and explore the many exciting educational opportunities available at MSU, as well as the many career opportunities available in the agricultural, food sciences, natural resources and related fields.
Although the program is not limited to Native American youth, the program content is based on issues of relevance to Native American students.
Daily activities include academic, social and cultural presentations. The mornings consist of SAT test preparation and afternoons consist of tours and presentations by different colleges that are part of MSU.
