Since 2009, the Syngenta Foundation funded the MSU/AFRE Project to Strengthen Regional Agricultural Integration in West Africa project (SRAI 1).

  • This served the main policy research and outreach program of the Syngenta Foundation in West Africa and addressed the need to assist countries in developing policies to encourage productivity  growth throughout the food system.

For the period 2013-2015, SRAI II built upon and extended the results of SRAI 1.

  • This worked through expanded outreach to key policy makers regarding the actions needed to bring about a quicker and more effective convergence between the rapidly evolving food consumption patterns in West Africa and the capacity of food systems in the region to meet those demands.
  • In this phase, SRAI 2 drew upon the research done by others on factors constraining productivity at the farm level and concentrate its efforts on adding new empirical understanding on factors likely to constrain productivity growth in the off - farm elements of the food system.

Implementation:  Apr. 2009 - Dec. 2016.
