Growth, Mortality, and Mark Retention of Hatchery Brook Trout Marked with Visible Implant Tags, Jaw Tags, and Adipose Fin Clips
Published on July 6, 2015
Growth, mortality, mark retention, and mark readability were compared among control and treatment groups of 197-265-mm hatchery brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis marked with visible implant tags, adipose tin clips, or stainless steel circularstrap jaw tags -
Undergraduate Fisheries Education: Technical Specialization or Broad Foundation?
Published on June 17, 2015
The fisheries profession continues to increase in complexity, and fisheries professionals are more frequently being called upon to function in new settings. -
Inheritance of duplicated fumarase and phosphoglucomutase loci in lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush)
Published on June 17, 2015
Two polymorphic, duplicated loci (fumarase-1,2 and phosphoglucomutase-3,4), previously undescribed in salmonids, were examined in lake trout to determine their electrophoretic expression, mode of inheritance, and linkage associations. -
Genetic variation at microsatellite loci in sturgeon: primer sequence homology in Acipenser and Scaphirhynchus
Published on June 17, 2015
Eleven motif microsatellite loci were identified in a lake sturgeon genomic library and were tested against the six North American species of Acipenser and the two species of Scaphirhynchus using four to six individuals of each species. -
Genetic Aspects of Fisheries Rehabilitation Programs
Published on June 17, 2015
The stocking of indigenous or exotic fish species is often a desirable aspect of fisheries rehabilitation programs. -
If Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus is ‘the most diverse vertebrate', what is the lake charr Salvelinus namaycush?
Published on June 17, 2015
Teleost fishes are prominent vertebrate models of evolution, illustrated among old-world radiations by the Cichlidae of East African Great Lakes and new-world radiations by the circumpolar Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus. Herein, we describe variation -
Political influences on greenhouse gas emissions from US states
Published on June 15, 2015
We evaluate the extent to which politics attenuates the effects of economic and demographic factors on environmental outcomes by examining variation in CO2 emissions across US states and within states over time. -
Muskellunge and Northern Pike Ecology and Management: Important Issues and Research Needs
Published on June 4, 2015
Future Muskellunge and Northern Pike research should focus on egg survival based on habitat characteristics, and developing a better understanding of how selective exploitation can alter population size structure, and life history characteristics. -
Muskellunge Spawning Site Selection in Northern Wisconsin Lakes and a GIS-Based Predictive Habitat Model
Published on June 4, 2015
Spawning habitat degradation has been linked to declines in naturally reproducing Muskellunge Esox masquinongy populations, and managers require efficient methods to identify and protect these habitats. -
Acoustic Telemetry Reveals Large-Scale Migration Patterns of Walleye in Lake Huron
Published on June 1, 2015
Our findings reveal that fish from this stock use virtually the entirety of U.S. nearshore waters of Lake Huron. -
Sculpins and Crayfish in Lake Trout Spawning Areas in Lake Ontario: Estimates of Abundance and Egg Predation on Lake Trout Eggs
Published on June 1, 2015
Crayfish and sculpins were collected at eight lake trout spawning reefs in Lake Ontario to assess abundance and potential to consume lake trout eggs. -
Bathythermal Habitat Use by Strains of Great Lakesand Finger Lakes-Origin Lake Trout in Lake Huron after a Change in Prey Fish Abundance and Composition
Published on June 1, 2015
A study conducted in Lake Huron during October 1998–June 2001 found that strains of Great Lakes-origin lake trout Salvelinus namaycush occupied significantly higher temperatures than did Finger Lakes-origin. -

Published on June 1, 2015
Improved methods are needed to evaluate barriers and traps for control and assessment of invasive sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) in the Great Lakes. -
Summer Habitat Use by Introduced Smallmouth Bass in an Oligotrophic Adirondack Lake
Published on June 1, 2015
Snorkel surveys, from late June through early August 1997, were used to determine the distribution and abundance of fish in the littoral zone. -
Behavior of Lake Trout Sac Fry: Vertical Movement at Different Developmental Stages
Published on May 27, 2015
The purpose of this study was to compare vertical movement of lake trout sac fry at different developmental stages, to describe their diel movement patterns, and to examine the distance that sac fry will swim off the bottom. -
