Join us for a maple sugaring adventure as we discover how maple sap becomes maple syrup. Explore the fascinating science and history of making maple syrup from sap as you virtually visit Tollgate Farm's sugarbush and sugar shack. You'll have a chance to explore how and why a tree produces sap in the first place, how to identify a maple tree, and how we tap maples for sap. Observe a modern day maple sugaring operation and explore the regional history of making this sweet treat by getting to know the history of the land, its peoples, and the tools. Be food scientists as together we explore the science of sweetness and steam in your very own testing lab. Series is accompanied with journal pages and a special maple sugaring blog with extension activities.
