Participants in a breakout session at the 2022 4-H Spectacular Youth Leadership Institute

The Michigan 4-H Spectacular Youth Leadership Institute is a lively celebration of the power of young people as leaders! Participants in this exciting, energetic, interactive Institute will participate in small and large group sessions to share and develop valuable knowledge and skills related to youth leadership, community engagement, and global citizenship. The Institute is open to current and aspiring teen leaders ages 13 and older (by Jan. 1, 2024), who seek to develop skills to serve in leadership roles in clubs, schools, communities, the state, and the world. Attending the 2023 Institute will help teens become outstanding leaders who approach life with their head, heart, and hands open to new ideas, interesting people, and diverse cultures and perspectives.
The Institute will be held on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, November 10-12, 2023.

The objectives of the SYLU are for participants to:
• Develop skills and knowledge as youth leaders and global citizens
• Provide teens with tools to start citizenship, leadership, and service projects in their community (or build on and enhance existing programs and activities)
• Meet and share ideas with other teens, adult leaders, and MSU staff
• Have fun!!

The registration fee ($175.00) for the Institute includes meals, program materials, group transportation, and overnight hotel lodging for the evenings of November 10 and 11 at the Fairlfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Lansing at Eastwood, located at 3320 Preyde Blvd., Lansing, MI 48912. Scholarships are available for those in need of financial assistance. Please contact the 4-H Program Coordinator in your county and/or the event organizer Brian Wibby (contact info below) for more information regarding scholarships.

Youth participants may request up to 3 roommates, and will be assigned to a hotel room shared with other youth following MSU Extensions Overnight Housing Policies (each participant will have their own private bed). All youth who participate will have a MSU Extension staff member or an adult volunteer who has successfully completed the MSU Extension Volunteer Selection Process and achieved Gold Level status assigned as their chaperone for the event. On-site check-in for participants attending the Institute will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2023, at Brody Hall, 241 W. Brody Rd., East Lansing, MI 48825. Group transportation for all participants from Brody Hall to Fairfield Inn and Suites will be provided by MSU staff members using MSU owned vehicles. Participants will be guided and transported in groups by staff and adult volunteers to meals and various campus locations throughout the duration of the Institute. The Institute will conclude on Sunday, November 12, at 1 p.m. at Brody Hall. Arrangements should be made by parents/guardians to pick up youth participants from Brody Hall by no later than 1:30 p.m.
