Adulting 101- Wayne County- July 15th

This exciting series of Adulting 101 is being offered for Wayne County youth residents aged 14-21 years old and will help youth prepare for life on their own!

Sessions will be held every Monday and Wednesday at 11 a.m. EST for approximately one hour using Zoom. Connection information will be sent to the email address provided during registration. At least two MSU Extension staff will facilitate discussions around life-skills necessary for adulthood. Descriptions are listed below.

June 22: Relationships: You, Me & Us - How do you know if your relationship with your boyfriend/girlfriend/bae/friend or any other significant person in your life is healthy? Join us to explore respect, trust, boundaries, equality, and communication in youth relationships.

June 24: Cooking Skills 101- Discuss proper cooking skills such as safe knife handling, measuring ingredients, reading recipes, and showing food demos.

June 29: Where’s My Money Going? ­- Write down all income and expenses for one month. Identify occasional expenses to include in spending plan. Identify changes that can be made to balance a spending plan as needed to reach goals.

July 1: Credit Craze: Basics of Credit ­- Increase your knowledge of credit and avoid the craze of debt in just one hour. In this interactive session you will learn what credit is and how it works, the different types of credit, the advantages and disadvantages of credit, what a credit report is and how to improve your credit score.

July 6: Resumes that Rock! - This presentation includes the basic do’s and don’ts of resume writing. Topics including formatting styles, how to catch an employer’s eye, what not to include, writing tips and tools. Successful samples are provided for each section.

July 8: Stress Less with Mindfulness - Stress is a normal part of life, but how do you know the difference between stress and being stressed out? Join us to learn about what stress is, what causes it and how to manage it with Mindfulness.

July 13: Interviews for Success - This workshop covers interview basics including preparing personal sales pitches, dressing for the interview, virtual interview tips and how to plan for a successful interview experience. Youth will practice answering tough interview questions and gain feedback.

July 15: You Are What You Eat! - Nutrition labels are on all foods, but they aren't easy to read. We will show you the basics to look for, as well as how to make sure it is safe to eat.

Please note that some sessions may have a capacity limit in order to facilitate conversation and interaction for participants.  Please login early to ensure your space as rooms will shut down when logins reach capacity.
