Hosted by Michigan Sea Grant, MSU Extension, and MSU Outreach and Engagement, this Community Engaged Scholarship Training is a highly-engaged program to help scientists understand the role of community relationships and how they can help improve scientific research. We will explore how community-engaged relationships impact participant communities, individual lives, public health, and decision-making. This four-day training on the shores of Lake Erie will include interactive workshops, an exciting field trip, speaker panels, and case studies to see principles in action.

This is an interactive training event. Participants will:

  • Practice collaboration techniques
  • Practice communicating with the public
  • Critically think about incorporating community engagement planning into their work
  • Begin developing a communications plan
  • Practice crafting an engaging social media strategy

You will come away from this training with a new perspective on community engagement activities and their role in scientific research, tools to help you improve your scientific communications, and techniques for engaging a variety of stakeholder groups that you can put into practice when you return to work.
