The annual Drainage Design Workshop will be held in East Lansing, Michigan. This workshop is a collaboration between Michigan State University and Michigan Land Improvements Contractors Association. This two-day workshop focuses on planning and designing of subsurface (tile) drainage systems to meet both crop production and environmental objectives.
Who should attend?
This workshop is intended for producers, landowners, consultants, drainage contractors, government agency personnel, and water resource managers.
What will be taught?
Drainage planning topics include legal aspects, basics of soils, economics of drainage, doing your own tiling, safety in installation, and controlled drainage. The design topics begin with basic design considerations, and then follow a step-by-step design procedure through individual and small-team hands-on design problems. Application of online design tools will be taught to maximize yield and profit with subsurface drainage.

Event Provides: We will provide notepads, engineering scales, pens, pencils, eraser for each participant. We will provide one Dell laptop for every two participants to share.
What to bring: Please bring your calculator. Bring your laptop, if you want to use your own laptop.
Food: We will offer morning and afternoon refreshments as well as a lunch buffet (meat and vegetarian).
Morning refreshments from 8 to 10:30 a.m.: Coffee (regular and decaf), hot tea, hard boiled eggs, varieties of juices and milk, assortment of mini muffins, two selections of Danishes, cinnamon rolls, bagels and English muffins with cream cheese, Two selections of toaster breads (with buffer, jelly & honey), assortment of yogurt with granola, variety of oatmeal, basket of whole fresh fruit.
Afternoon refreshments from 2 to 5 p.m.: Coffee (regular and decaf), hot tea, Coca-Cola fountain drinks, while fruit, assortment of dry snacks, gourmet cookies and brownies, fruit and cheese tray or vegetable crudités with dips, and ice cream treats.
Accommodation: We have blocked a limited number of rooms at the Candlewood Suites (3545 Forest Rd., Lansing), adjacent to the Henry Center, for a discounted price of $95/night plus tax for studio suites. Registration: Early registration is $200 until January 29th by 11:59 p.m., and price goes up to $250 starting from January 30. Registration deadline is February 7 at 11:59 p.m. This workshop is limited to 20 participants, and on-site registration will be unavailable on the day of the event.
