Bill Schneider - Garden Design with Maintenance in Mind, $20
Introducing native plants to your landscape brings many benefits but it is a common misconception that it inherently means lower maintenance. Bill will discuss design ideas that can reduce maintenance and enhance your overall enjoyment of your landscape.
Janet Macunovich - In Over your Head: Cutting Back the Rambunctious Garden, $20
Professional gardener Janet Macunovich explains to beginners and experienced gardeners alike the basics of pruning hedges, shrubs and trees to shape them, keep them small or cut them back to start over. Janet discusses the fundamentals of cutting back herbaceous plants as well, including perennials, herbs and even vegetables that need shaping for improved density, delayed flowering, reduction in size, renewal of appearance and reduced clean-up at season's end.

Join Bob, MSU Extension Fruit educator, for an indoor lecture and outdoor hands-on demonstration on all aspects of caring for young apple trees. Including selecting the right tree, establishing your tree, and caring for and pruning during the first few years. This course is for the homeowner serious about growing quality apples.
Dress appropriately for the weather. If you have loppers or pruners, please bring them. *pizza lunch included
Vern Stephens - Native Plants: Landscaping for Where You Are, $20
Vern Stephens, of Design by Nature, illustrates how plants adapted to the local climate can thrive with minimal maintenance while supporting native wildlife and attracting pollinators.

John Hartig - Waterfront Porch: Reclaiming Detroit's Industrial Waterfront as a Gathering Place for All, $20
Waterfront Porch is the story of how Detroit is building a new front door to the Detroit River called the Detroit RiverWalk as part of a strategy to reconnect people with nature, help revitalize the city and region, and help foster a more sustainable future. It is a story of one of the largest, by scale, waterfront redevelopment projects in the United States that will give hope and will help provide evidence that Detroit and its metropolitan region have a bright future.
Kim Roth - Botanical Latin: Learn the Language of Linnaeus, $20
Christensen's Nursery Perennial Plant Department Manager Kim Roth shares her knowledge about the scientific naming of plants and what their Latin name expresses about each species, including their history, ecosystem function and human uses.
Dean Krauskopf, PhD - The Doctor is in: Diagnosing Plant Problems, $30
MSU Extension Educator Dean Krauskopf is offering a hands-on experience diagnosing problems and providing solutions to improve your home landscaping. Handle live specimens to learn more about disease and deficiency in this interactive workshop.
Dr. Tyler Bassett - Native Grasslands of Michigan: Acting in the Interest of Prairies and Savannas, $20
The tallgrass prairie and savanna grasslands of North America are among the most critically imperiled ecosystems in the world. Dr. Bassett will discuss efforts to restore the remnant examples of these ecosystems in Michigan which provide habitat for the many rare species that depend upon them. Dr. Bassett is a botanist and plant ecologist and works for MSU Extension and on the Michigan Natural Features Inventory.
