Dr. Manan Sharma is a Research Microbiologist in the Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory with the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (USDA ARS) in Beltsville, Maryland. His research focuses on pre‐harvest produce safety issues and its intersection with environmental sustainability, including persistence of bacterial pathogens in water and manure‐ amended soils. He has collaborated on several large multinstitutional projects, like the NIFA‐funded CONSERVE project, focused on water quality, AND the CONTACT project, an integrated produce safety investigative project. He has also collaborated with FDA to provide data for the Produce Safety Rule of FSMA and with EPA to improve the environmental detection of pathogens for NARMS. He was awarded

the International Association for Food Protection Maurice Weber Laboratorian Award in 2018, and was named a Fellow of the International Association for Food Protection in 2022. He is currently the Secretary of IAFP.

He received in B.S. degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Food Science and Technology from the University of Georgia.
