Hands-On Drone-to-GIS Workshop - NMC

This unique three-day course, taught by experts in the fields of Aviation and GIS, teaches participants how to fly drones and collect data within existing regulations, and then turn data into a usable product. Participants will leave the course with a clear understanding of the Drone-to-GIS workflow, including becoming a Remote Pilot-in-Command*, planning and completing missions and analyzing the resultant data.

This course is relevant for professionals in agriculture, planning, natural resource management, engineering, construction, GIS and more.

*This course is not intended to be a Remote Pilot Certificate prep course. It is recommended you invest time in further study before taking the exam. A prep course from NMC is available.

Workshop Details

Cost: $1,500
Suggested Prerequisite: None

During the course, participants will complete the following:

  • Learn current FAA regulations & requirements for obtaining an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Plan & Execute autonomous drone missions
  • Manually operate multi-rotor drones
  • Process imagery into usable products, such as image mosaics, surface models and indices
  • Learn the basics of visible and near-infrared (VNIR) remote sensing, ground control data collection, photogrammetric principles and more
  • Examine drone data along with existing publicly-available GIS data using freeware (QGIS and QT Reader) and commercial GIS software (ArcGIS)
