Please join us Tuesday, March 23rd from 3:30 - 4:30 for our next speaker in the Hanover Forest Online Science Seminar Series: Kendall DeLyser

Topic: Impacts of Forest Management on Carbon Sequestration and Storage for Climate Change Mitigation

American Forests is working with five states in the US Climate Alliance – Maryland, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin – to model the impacts of forest management on carbon sequestration and storage on a state and regional level. Our collaborative research team uses the Carbon Budget Model of the Canadian Forest Sector (CBM-CFS3) to assess forest sector carbon trends and management scenarios through a systems-based approach that considers the forest ecosystem, harvested wood products, substitution effects, and economic impacts. This research aims to fill a critical knowledge gap in today’s natural climate solutions discussions, helping guide each state towards decisions that optimize forest management for carbon sequestration and economic benefits and enable the inclusion of forests in state-level climate action planning.
