Title
Looking at Forest Carbon from Multiple Dimensions: Evaluating Tradeoffs and Opportunities to Forest Carbon Management
Speaker
Tony D'Amato, Professor and Forestry Program Director, University of Vermont
Description
Forests are increasingly being recognized for their carbon benefits with a rapidly growing array of policy initiatives and market opportunities now focused on forests as natural climate solutions. Nevertheless, the conditions incentivized by these programs, as well as those more broadly viewed as maximizing carbon benefits may conflict with other objectives tied to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience under changing climate and disturbance regimes. This webinar will explore potential tradeoffs and opportunities in relation to managing for forest carbon and will outline holistic carbon management strategies that account for long-term ecosystem resilience and the importance of balancing numerous objectives.
