Join us as we celebrate the Life of the Straits Program! 

June - September, 4 unique events
Sign up for as many or as few as you'd like

June 8th, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Cheboygan 
July 17th, 12 - 5 p.m. - Sault Ste Marie 
August 27th, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.  - Presque Isle 
September 14th, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Mackinac Island 

Event recommended for families with children age 8-13. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during all activities. This event is free to 4-H members and their families!

Limited space for each days event. When registering, please only select the days you plan to attend. 

General Schedule:
30 minutes - orientation to the day
1 - 1.5 hours - Educational activity 1 (group 1) 
                      Educational activity 2 (group 2)
1 hour  - Transition time (some days include a snack or meal)
1 - 1.5 hours - Educational activity 1 (group 2) 
                      Educational activity 2 (group 1)

Parents or guardians are responsible for drop off and pick up after event and are strongly encouraged to participate along with the youth during the event. 

All children participating between the ages of 5-19 must be registered 4-H members. There is a $20 fee to register as a 4-H member for children 5-19. This fee covers the cost of becoming a 4-H member, and is only applicable to the first three children registered in a household.  

4-H registration is available online at, or by visiting the your local county extension office. Any child must be registered as a 4-H member prior to the event.

If you are not able to pay the $20 4-H membership fee or if it would be a barrier to participating, please fill out our scholarship form and your 4-H fees can be waived.

Children participating in the Life of the Straits Event do not have to participate in any future 4-H events if they so choose.

Please note information will be emailed to you after registering with details on parking and meet up locations as well as more info on the days event. A tentative over view of each days event is below. Topics and activates may be subject to change: 

Cheboygan: Glass bottom boat tour with focus on lake ecology. Coast guard tour and overview. More info Cheboygan County 4-H Facebook

For the Mackinac Island event, ferry transportation is provided free of charge.
