The MSU STEM Education Alliance Fall Reception is a networking opportunity for current and new faculty, specialists, staff, post-docs and graduate students engaging in and supporting undergraduate STEM education.
The theme of the reception is Connecting STEM Education Research and Practice. We invite colleagues from across campus to share their stories about how education research has informed and impacted teaching methods, curricular development, and the culture around teaching and learning in their units.
The overall goals are to:
- Highlight undergraduate STEM education efforts across the university including ways to get involved with the STEM education community; and
- Facilitate networking among faculty, specialists, researchers, and staff from STEM colleges across campus.
Welcome Reception Agenda
3:30 - 3:45 p.m.: Registration and Refreshments
3:45 - 3:50 p.m.: Welcome and Meeting Overview with Cori Fata-Hartley, Assistant Dean, College of Natural Science
3:50 - 3:55 p.m.: Connecting Research to Practice in Gateway STEM Courses with Mark Voit, Associate Dean, College of Natural Science
3:55 - 4:10 p.m.: Putting Research into Practice: The Case of Physics and Astronomy with Danny Caballero, Associate Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy and 2017 Recipient of the MSU President’s Distinguished Teaching Award
4:15 - 4:30 p.m.: Poster Introductions: Presenters will have 30 seconds to introduce their posters, giving attendees an overview of what can be learned during the following poster session.
4:30 - 5:30 p.m.: Poster Session and Networking: Hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and other refreshments served.
