ABOUT:
Are you interested in learning how to lead fishing programs with youth? Michigan State University Saginaw County 4-H will hold a Project F.I.S.H. Workshop October 1 - 2 2021, to educate interested volunteers, teachers, educators, and community members, about the fine art of fishing and the importance of caring for Michigan’s vital aquatic resources.

In this workshop you will gain confidence with basic fishing skills, practice techniques and be given the tools and resources to begin a successful fishing program/club with children in 4-H Clubs, the classroom or in an after-school setting. This workshop will offer tackle making, fish ID, fish games, knot tying, fish prints, casting, ethics, and fish cleaning and cooking!

Participants will receive:

  • Project F.I.S.H curriculum
  • Fishing links and resources
  • Access to the Project F.I.S.H Bait Shop (purchase discounted fishing supplies)
  • Opportunity to connect and build fishing partnerships
  • Fishing Rod, Reel, and Tackle
  • Fishing Games

Each day will have the same theme “Let’s partner to get kids to care for our aquatic resources by learning to fish through this Placed Based Learning Initiative.” During your training, you will be introduced to a variety of individuals and organizations in your area to call on for assistance and expertise. Don’t miss this chance to become involved in introducing this education style to your community.

This is a workshop based on the Project FISH philosophy of hands on, multiple-contact sportfishing and aquatic resource education. We will offer activities in Aquatic Ecology, Tackle Crafting, People and Fish Management and actual Angling Skills. The workshop is partially funded through MSU Extension, grants, and donors to Project F.I.S.H.
