Mindfulness for Better Living

Mondays, August 5 - August 26, 2024

2-3 p.m. ET

Research shows that practicing mindfulness can not only reduce stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression, and physical tension, it may also be helpful in managing chronic conditions such as cardiac disease and diabetes.

8/5: Changing Negative Self-Talk: We all have automatic thoughts, both positive and negative. Having more positive thoughts can influence how we manage stress. During this workshop participants will learn about the brain’s negativity bias and how it affects our response to stress. In addition, we will talk about the benefits of positive self-talk and explore other tools for dealing with negative self-talk.

8/12: Calming Down and De-stressing: During this workshop participants will be introduced to the effects of stress and anger on the brain and body. Participants will also practice effective ways to calm down and de-stress.

8/19: Brief Practices in Mindfulness: The goal of this workshop is to give participants a variety of mindfulness practices to use every day. Together, we will practice mindful breathing, grounding, ways to quiet your mind, a brief body scan, a forest-guided meditation, and more! We will finish the workshop by developing a plan for personal practice.

8/26: Laughter is the Best Medicine: This workshop is a hoot! Together, we’ll explore the social, emotional, mental, and physical benefits of laughter. We will discuss how to incorporate more laughter into our daily life for overall better health.
