This class will provide an introduction on how to collect and preserve insects. The first part of the course will be a presentation on the background of insect collections and strategies for collecting different insects of all shapes and sizes. The second part will be hands-on work (at your home) at collecting (weather permitting), pinning, and labelling pre-collected insects. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own insects for pinning. All participants will receive an insect collection box, set of pins, and will have the opportunity to leave the class with 10-20 pinned insects. Although this class will be virtual, participants will have the opportunity to work interactively with the instructor and their classmates to pin a variety of insect types.
