June 17-21, 2019

Hotel Indigo

Although fire blight has been known since the late 1700’s, and has been known to be caused by a bacterium since the late 1800’s, the disease continues to cause devastating damage and incite epidemics in pome fruit growing regions annually. Fire blight also continues to spread to new countries, the most recent of which include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and South Korea. It is a goal of this meeting to facilitate collaborations among the worldwide group of fire blight researchers with hopes of generating sustainable management tactics targeting this disease.

The 2nd International Symposium on Fire Blight of Rosaceous Plants (ISFB2019) is the second symposium convened under our reorganized format, but is actually the 15th international symposium on fire blight held every three years throughout the past 40+ years. The meeting will cover:

  • all aspects of fire blight research
  • presenting the latest advances in relevant fields such as chemical/biological control and disease management
  • host-pathogen interactions
  • resistance breeding
  • host and pathogen genetics/genomics
  • disease epidemiology and ecology
  • pathogen identification and strain characterization

Abstract submission is open until May 15. We welcome submissions for workshops, oral papers, panel presentations, and research posters. There will also be a series of invited keynote speakers throughout the meeting. There will be ample opportunity for informal social interactions including on a tour of the northwest Michigan fruit-production region.

Check back often as additional details regarding the symposium will be posted.
