New Markets Opportunities for Michigan Agricultural Products

Michigan applesThe globalization of the agricultural sector continues to offer new opportunities for Michigan agricultural commodities and products worldwide. The CANR International Programs team has initiated discussions with the Michigan Milk Producers Association, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) and Food Export Association of the Midwest to explore new market opportunities. The goal is to understand current trade barriers and opportunities for linking Michigan farmers, producers, and exporters/importers to emerging international markets. Initial exploratory discussions have focused on connecting Michigan dairy products, small fruits and wood products to markets in Asia. Planning is underway for a joint virtual forum with key stakeholders in Asia and Michigan. For more information, please contact Dru Montri, PhD, and Karim Maredia, PhD, at dnmontri@msu.edu and kmaredia@msu.edu respectively.
