2019 Spring Program

It's time for the 2019 Spring Program which will once again be a Spring Make & Take!  Join us on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm for a fun filled afternoon of activities.

This entertaining event combines 3 workshops plus gourmet desserts, coffee, and tea!  Each attendee will create their own rustic hand-lettered garden sign, herbal tea pot, and air plant wreath. Program details are below.

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm: Hand Lettered Sign3

Rustic Hand Lettered Garden Sign

Join Sara Koert of Light and Salt Design as she guides you through the world of hand lettering. Participants will learn basic techniques and then create a hand painted garden sign of locally sourced reclaimed barn wood.

Sara Koert was a Garden intern for the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden while earning her Horticulture degree from MSU. Through interning, her love of art and education focused horticulture was cultivated and lead her to The Morton Arboretum as a Children’s Garden Horticulturist. After having her first son, she became a stay at home mom but continued to pursue both horticulture and art in between caring for her children. She is now an independent garden consultant and watercolor calligrapher under the name Light and Salt Designs in Grand Haven, Michigan. Sara loves to help people re-design and take care of their own landscapes while teaching classes on watercolor calligraphy that empower people to paint encouraging words themselves.

Herbal Tea PotTea

Explore the diverse and delicious world of herbal tea plants, from Agastache to Zingiber. You’re likely already growing some of these plants in your Michigan garden. We will discuss how to harvest, dry, blend, and brew herbal teas. Each participant will plant an herbal tea container to harvest from and enjoy at home.  Presented by our own garden staff!

Air Plant Wreath with Moss

Air Plant Wreath 2Join garden staff members in creating a beautiful grapevine wreath complete with air plants and colorful moss. Learn about general care, design, and ideas for expanding your air plant collection and freshening your indoor space. Participants will leave with a beautifully decorated wreath of their own.
