Position Overview
As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI), this position provides leadership and expertise in field crops production. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams, Institutes, and community groups, working with faculty, specialists, and educators for overall advancement of clientele needs.
In this position, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate programs that meet outreach needs related to sustainable production of the diverse crop mix, as well as other agronomic crops. Your work will include facilitation of research-based programming and resources to support production of a variety of crops. Through your leadership, you will act as a subject matter expert in diverse cropping systems. Cropping systems in this area of Michigan may include corn, soybean, dry bean, potato, small grains, and cover crops. Crops may be grown under irrigation or dry land.
Through collaboration in research, engagement with community members, and dissemination of research-based information through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will explore and implement programs that lead to a change in public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors will improve the efficiency and sustainability of cropping systems. You will also develop, produce, and deliver cropping system related outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with AABI messaging.
Your work will include close collaboration with colleagues at MSU and MSU Extension, as well as the diverse network of partner groups that include MSU Montcalm Research Center, commodity groups, and state and local agencies. You will collaborate with the diverse network of partner groups that include but are not limited to county and regional Farm Bureau groups, agribusinesses, and Conservation Districts.
Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)
- Master’s degree in a field of study related to field crops production such as, entomology, agronomy, soil science, or plant pathology.
