Communications and Social Media Student Assistant

Position description

The Communications and Social Media Student Assistant will play an active role in developing the MSU Forestry Forest Carbon and Climate Program (FCCP) presence in digital, social media, and printed formats. The Student Assistant will work with the FCCP Program Assistant to build and maintain the FCCP social media platforms and promote FCCP programs, courses, activities, and events with communications materials. The assistant will share content and write/create original flyers, short stories, graphics and images that comply with MSU brand standards. The assistant will also help to maintain the FCCP website by uploading and updating content.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Interest and basic to moderate skills in storytelling, copy editing, and graphic design
  • Familiarity with mainstream social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite (primarily InDesign and Illustrator)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Interest in conservation, land management, forests, and/or climate change

Working Conditions

The position will offer remote work options. Office space is available for use if needed. The working environment includes working with computer screens, sitting at a desk and using digital design and word processing software.

Location

Office is located in MSU’s Natural Resources building.  MSU enjoys a park-like campus with outlying research facilities and natural areas. The campus is located in the City of East Lansing, adjacent to the capital City of Lansing. The Lansing metropolitan area has a diverse population of approximately 450,000. Compensation

Starting wage is $15/hour for 8-20 hours per week while classes are in session (additional hours are possible during breaks, exam week and summer semester).  Hours can be flexible within the range provided based on student course workload. Continuation for multiple semesters is anticipated.
