JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the support of plant breeding activities and delivery of all plant-growing activities in the breeding department at Encinitas. This position reports to Breeding Manager and is responsible for assisting and ensuring all plants are grown properly to meet the quality standards.

Participate in trainings and seminars to assure all processes are performed safely and adequately.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

BI-LINGUAL REQUIRED (English & Spanish)
Bachelor degree in biology, agriculture, horticulture (plant sciences)
Minimum 6 months greenhouse experience, or similar role
Knowledge of the principles of horticulture
Work experience and demonstrated skill in the operation of basic equipment common to tissue
culture and genetics research laboratory
Ability to keep exact, detailed records and the ability to operate a computer - Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of standard greenhouse practices
Experience with vegetative propagated crop plants
Knowledge of genetics and plant breeding
Relevant tissue culture experience
Ability to communicate clearly, understand and provide instructions to team members
Data entry, ability to analyze data and prepare reports
Extremely responsible, reliable, punctual and self-motivated

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Follow work hours of Agricultural – Farming Operations
Must be able to function within agricultural environment with regards to dust, noise, odors
May require an adjusted work schedule (evenings and/or weekends, holidays)
Handle pesticide and pesticide application equipment
While performing the duties of this job employee is frequently exposed to cold, wet/and or humid conditions, outside weather and extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals
Must be able to perform: lifting (up to 30 lb), bending, standing, excessive walking
