Grape and Peach Research Technician
Bachelor's degree and no experience or equivalent combination required. Area-specific certification may be required and training will be provided as appropriate.
This Research Technician III role is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits. Schedule will mostly be Monday through Friday, but may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends as seasonal data collection and other tasks demand. Assigned tasks will address applied, field-based and laboratory research in grapes (estimated 75% of the time) and peaches (estimated 25% of the time) with the goal of developing recommendations for the grape and peach industries throughout Georgia and the southeastern US. The successful candidate will work with Drs. Phil Brannen (Grape and Peach Plant Pathology) and Cain Hickey (Viticulture). The technician will support graduate student research and aid in the development and execution of field research, and extension materials for publications, workshops, and conferences. The successful candidate will coordinate applied, on-farm and field research trials and work directly with research/extension scientists, extension agents, grape and peach industry personnel, and College and Department personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for becoming a team member of Horticulture and Plant Pathology Departments. They will be encouraged to be creative, scientific, and flexible in the execution of daily tasks. Work will take place on campus in offices and laboratories, as well as out in the field at the Horticulture Farm and in commercial orchards and vineyards. The successful candidate must be willing to travel. The successful candidate must be willing to work outside year-round (sometimes in extreme heat or cold conditions), be able to work on uneven land topography, and be able lift heavy objects in some instances.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
Ideal candidates will demonstrate skill and ability to execute both field and lab work with scientific precision, and work well with all departmental and program personnel.
Work in demanding outside conditions. Outside work in mid-summer and late winter. At times lifting heavy objects.
