JOB DESCRIPTION: Greenhouse Grower Internship

SUMMARY

Hood’s Gardens is a wholesale annual flower grower supplying highest quality plant material to the central Indiana area.  We offer an extremely diverse plant catalog to commercial landscape contractors such as Brightview as well as a full line for independent retail garden centers throughout the state. We also supply finished product for many PGA events nationwide.  Hood’s Gardens has a dedicated grower staff that works closely with the plant material to ensure the highest quality end product.  This is achieved through knowledge and utilization of the facilities state-of-the-art resources including ECHO basket water systems, OASIS water systems, automatic BOOM water systems, complete PRIVA environmental controls and multiple chemical/fertilizer injection systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • An intern will be working side by side with our growing staff to produce the highest quality annual flower crops.  
  • You will learn how and when to apply water and fertilizers to best benefit the crop and help in the day-to-day irrigation needs, including hands on experience of the newest automatic irrigation devices as well as hand watering.
  • You will see how to properly apply BCAs, pesticides, and plant growth regulators and the steps and process involved in application.
  • You will learn how to use environmental controls to manipulate the growing environment to ensure the optimum growing conditions.
  • An intern will help with the scouting of crops to identify mineral deficiencies, fungal and or insect issues and learn the proper methods to resolve them.

COMPENSATION

This will be a PAID internship opportunity with the option to hopefully join our team in the future!  Hood’s Gardens is in Noblesville, Indiana and has a vast array of amenities close by including shopping, dining, sports and music venues.
