Job Description:

The New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES) within UNH’s College of Life Science and Agriculture is seeking applications for a Greenhouse Manager responsible for NHAES greenhouses in Durham, NH. The NHAES greenhouses cover approximate 25,000 sq. ft., and are managed with support of a full time staff assistant and part time undergraduate employees. The facilities support research on a diversity of species and production systems including conventional and certified organic, with a commitment to sustainable practices.

We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in greenhouse production and management. Under supervision of the NHAES director, the manager will oversee all activities required for successful operation of the greenhouse research and teaching facilities.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture, or related field.
  • 5 or more years in progressively responsible experience managing agricultural or other relevant operations, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrate commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public as required.
  • Routine computer proficiency as required by experiment station and college.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting.
  • Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screening tests as mandated by Department of Transportation agency regulations.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in conducting or supporting agricultural research.
  • Personnel and fiscal operations management experience.
  • Teaching and training experience.
  • NH Pesticide Applicator Permit.
  • Experience with environmental control and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with a diversity of production systems.
  • Ability to identify pests and diseases and help develop comprehensive IPM strategies.
  • Capable of safely lifting 40 pounds and working under high temperatures and humidity.
  • Experience in conducting or supporting agricultural research.
  • Personnel and fiscal operations management experience.
  • Training experience.
  • NH Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or ability to secure within a reasonable time period.
