About the College/Unit/Department:
As one of the largest departments of plant pathology in the U.S., we are recognized internationally for our comprehensive and integrative research and outreach portfolio, spanning basic, translational and applied programs. Our scientists ensure the economic viability of agriculture, the largest sector of Georgia’s economy, and contribute to national and global food security by reducing crop losses. Equally important, our research increases the understanding of basic biology through new discoveries in pathogen biology, resistance genetics and host- pathogen interactions.
Monday- Friday, 8 AM-5 PM. Some evenings and weekends possible on a rotational basis (week day hours are worked less to offset these hours).
Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or related field. Experience in the production and protection of plants in a greenhouse environment. Follow detailed protocols for plant management, identify pests and diseases, and effectively communicate and be responsive to end-users including students, staff, and faculty. Must possess or be able to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies:
Incumbent will have skills necessary for production of plants for use in plant pathology programs, have a track record of exemplary responsibility for successful plant production, and effectively communicate and be responsive to end users that is inclusive of students, staff and faculty.
