Position:                     Head Gardener

Scope of Responsibilities: The Head Gardener will be responsible for the day-to-day cultivation, upkeep, and management of gardens and potted plants for the Family's Estate. As Head Gardener, the Employee is required to perform the following duties and undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner:

Compensation: Hourly rate of $25 to $30/hour; Bi-weekly payroll

Essential Functions:

·         Plant and maintain gardens, raised beds, planters, pots, etc.; cultivate, fertilize, and water plants.

·         Design and maintain potted plant arrangements.

·         Protect plants from deer and other destructive pests; provide preventive and treatment measures.

·         Observation to detect insects, disease, watering issues, and other issues related to plant growth and health.

·         Winterize gardens and planters in the fall.

·         Order or purchase seeds, plants, and supplies for gardens and planters.

·         Ensure the house is supplied with houseplants as requested and that they are cared for.

·         Work with the Property Manager in the Fall and Spring to clean up the grounds and gardens.

·         Assess and notify the Property Manager if the service of a contractor is needed.

Required Skills and Expertise:

•         High school diploma or equivalent

•         3+ years’ experience with gardening and grounds maintenance

•           Problem-solving and research skills

•           Excellent verbal communication skills

•         Ability to pass a background check

•         Absolute confidentiality and discretion on all matters

Schedule:

Gardener should be available as requested between December-March to assist with Spring preparation and other tasks as needed. Regular schedule begins mid-March through November, with onsite presence expected daily April through September.
