Hop Head Farms Summer Internship- Berrien Springs, MI

Hop Head Farms, LLC is Michigan's premier hop production and processing firm. We have numerous farms located in Berrien County, Michigan. Over 140 acres are currently in production with 40+ acres in preparation for planting in the forthcoming seasons. The firm is committed to acquiring and developing more acreage to keep up with brewer demand across the globe. We are seeking dedicated interns interested in getting involved in a blossoming industry for the region.

Students can expect to be fully immersed in the hops production process from first shoot emergence to harvest, as well as construction of new trellises and planting new acreage. It is our goal that the student will be well informed on key aspects of hops growing by the conclusion of the internship. These include canopy, fertility, water, and pest management as well as site assessment and development for new acreage. The intern will also have exposure to a state-of-the-art harvest center sourced from Germany and located in Baroda, MI to gain familiarity with harvest production processes. Adequate instruction and training will be pro- vided to ensure a safe and productive work environment. If desired, opportunities will be available to gain experience operating heavy equipment and machinery, key for successful production. Interns can also expect to have opportunities to network in the craft beer industry through touring breweries, brewers visiting the farm and meeting other hop growers.

Compensation is $16/hour. Free Housing on one of our farms located in Berrien Springs, MI is offered to those who are interested. Students will be responsible for securing transportation. A typical work week is 45 to 55 hours. Expected start date is May 27th, 2024, expected end date is August 12th, 2024. These dates are flexible. Hop harvest typically begins around the internship end date, but students interested in working through harvest may have the chance to do so. Opportunities for full-time employment may be available based on job performance and demonstrated commitment.
