Overview

Job duties for a horticulture & nursery technician include maintaining on-site inventory of plants, trees, shrubs, etc.; edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks and buildings; weeding landscape beds; trimming and pruning shrubs and flowers; rake, mulch, and prune grounds; plant perennials and annuals, as needed. Experience is not required, but is preferred. Year-round employment is available for those interested in working on the snow maintenance team during the winter season.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate preferred, not required
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain Chauffeur’s license within 90 days of employment
  • Polite, friendly personality as you may be required to greet/speak with clients
  • Willing to provide an exceptional level of service to clients
  • At least three (3) years of horticulture-related experience
  • Proven knowledge of plants and plant care
  • Valid Pesticide Applicators License (through MDARD) or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds may be necessary
  • Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and overtime
  • Willing to establish and maintain professional relationships with supervisory staff, crew members, customers, and community members
  • Travel to jobsites in company-provided vehicles
  • Willingness to learn new skills and abilities

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Proficiency in operating equipment, such as skid steers, tractors, and various other related equipment
  • Valid Chauffeur Driver’s License
  • Valid CDL

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct horticulture work for residential and commercial contracts for TruNorth Landscaping, including landscape maintenance and cleanups
  • Responsible for maintaining on-site inventory of plants, trees, shrubs, etc.
  • Trim and edge flower beds
  • Installation of flowers, grass, shrubs, and mulch
  • Trim shrubs, cut back perennial flowers, and pull weeds
  • Rake, mulch and prune grounds, as needed
  • Training crew members in proper plant care techniques
  • Ensure exceptional quality and consistent services are delivered to clients
  • Ensure work vehicles, equipment, and work trailers clean and organized
  • Perform daily equipment safety checks
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and route logs in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned
